General

Jackfruit is the largest fruit in the world and can weigh up to 36 kg (80 pounds). Its size can be as big as 90 cm (36 inches) long and 50 cm (20 inches) in diameter. Even the smallest of the jackfruits is still big! So if you decide to buy a whole jackfruit, it's best to ensure other friends or family members are going to help you consume it all.

In Asia, it is more common to buy jackfruit by its bulbs or pods. What does this mean? Well, the jackfruit is not one big fruit like an apple. Instead, there are smaller fruits within the shell or skin. Since it is difficult to eat the whole jackfruit, the pods or bulbs are sold more often than the whole fruit itself.

Jackfruit is more readily found in Asian markets than in western stores. The outside of the jackfruit is prickly.

Jackfruit should not be confused with the durian fruit. While they look similar, they are vastly different in taste and more importantly, in smell. The durian has an awful smell but the jackfruit does not.

Hatha Yoga
