Receding Gums and Juicing

I have been juicing vegetables for about two weeks, eating salad during the day and grapefruit at night. I am juicing a combination of carrot, spinach, kale, cucumber, garlic, ginger, apple (very few), celery, some cabbage. Not all at once but different combinations. My gums have receded some and my teeth are a but sensitive. Could you tell me if tell me if this could be related to the juicing and if there are vegetables I should avoid or include?

Jesse's Answer:

I doubt the receding gum line is due to the juice. More likely from mercury fillings, grinding of teeth which forces the teeth to bend back and forth at night which stretches the gum line lower, brushing too hard, etc.

One thing you may want to try is getting some sodium ascorbate powder. Sodium ascorbate is non-acidic vitamin C. Thus, you can add some powder to water and then rinse your mouth. Since it is non-acidic, it won't damage your teeth yet might help your gum line regenerate. I can't say with certainty, but it's worth a try. At the very least, sodium ascorbate helps to heal the gums.

Ascorbic acid is the acidic form of vitamin C which can destroy your teeth and thus should be avoided as a mouth wash. However, ascorbic acid makes an excellent skin rinse as your skin should naturally be acidic. When I make the skin rinse, I add 1/4 teaspoon of ascorbic acid to about 2 cups of water and then just pour the solution over my head. I don't rinse the solution off.

On another note. Do be careful about eating salads every day. Too many raw vegetables can weaken the digestive system leading to what the Chinese would say is dampness in the stomach and the spleen. This ultimately creates a stomach ache like feeling. But either way, salads have a lot of yin (cooling) which are better in the heat of the summer than in the coldness of winter.

Hatha Yoga

Have you been wanting to do hatha yoga (stretching) but have found it either too difficult or you are not that flexible? If yes, and even if no, watch Jesse do some pure hatha yoga routines.

Unlike flow yoga, each pose in pure or traditional hatha yoga is held for a few minutes. While holding the pose, you focus the mind on the stretch. When you focus the mind, that's when you find silence.

Jesse is not flexible — never has been and probably never will be flexible like others. But it doesn't matter. In pure hatha yoga, how flexible you are makes no difference. It's all about loving the pose and focussing the mind on the stretch.

If you want to learn pure hatha yoga, now you can by following Jesse on a series of hatha yoga routines.
